Private Tour. Today we will pick you up from your hotel. First we will drive North West  from 30 to 45 minutes. Mitad del Mundo is located in San Antonio de Pichincha parish. The iconic picture in the equatorial monument marking the Middle of World is a must.  Please that the central monument features a globe encircled by a silver band representing the equator: the globe is curiously orientated corresponding to the true position of the Earth. Finally, we will drive up to a viewpoint where we can observe the caldera of the potentially active volcano name Pululahua one of the only inhabited volcanic calderas in the world. Will then drive back towards the colonial city of Quito. We will drive through Quito’s narrow streets. First will stop at Basilica Church and continue onto Independence square, Compañia Church, San Francisco Square, will end up at a view point called Panecillo.

Mitad del Mundo Monument:  Its one of the most common souvenir photos taken in Ecuador. Celebrating Ecuador’s location on the world map, Mitad del Mundo is one of the country’s most visited monuments, only 30 to 45 minutes from dowtown Quito.

La Mitad del Mundo monument and complex dedicated to the equator and the fact that Quito lies only a handful of kilometers from it. In 1736 the French Academy of Science sent a Geodesic mission to the Real Audiencia de Quito to prove the roundness of earth. In the process they recognice the equatorial line. With modern GPS technology, we now know that the frech geodesic mission missed the true line by 7.83 seconds to the South, meaning some 240 meters aproximately Notice that the central monument features a globe encircled by a silver band representing the equator: the globe is curiously orientated corresponding to the true position of the Earth.
